Is it June already? Whew! - I am losing track of time......................
I cannot believe we are at the half way point! It has been a whirlwind of a year and the change of pace is very welcome. I am tunnel focused on growing my business and turning it into a profitable full time job - hopefully! I have many new and exciting opportunities on the horizon, some of which I won't speak to yet but all exciting and making me spread me wings.

I have many new jewelry items made but have not photographed them as they are going with me to next weeks show. My findings shop is stocked with over 150 NEW products and I hope to get them added to my Etsy shop when I return from next weeks adventure.

Next week, I am off to Milwaukee, WI for the 10th annual Bead & Button Show. I have been working like a mad woman for the last month - I was fortunate to be offered a booth space from a cancellation that came up. This will be the largest show I have done and I am excited and nervous all at the same time. My daughter is going with to help out so I am most grateful to have her to see me through and keep me company. Wish me luck - Milwaukee or bust!

A balmy week for the end of March in Minnesota is always a good week! The familiar touch of sunshine, warm air and humidity not felt since sometime early last fall was a very welcome stranger, I hope it settles in for long stay! I am getting the itch to get out and clean up the gardens as the green is begining to play peek-a-boo beneath winters carnage. I long to see lush growth and blooming flowers! Rain is in the weekend forcast so I am hoping for thunder storms. We could use a good dust off and I love the smell and sound of a good spring rain.

As promised, finally - I am sharing some photo's of my dolls. I really don't understand what it is about them that fascinate me so but I am drawn to old dolls like a moth to a flame, although I am not a fan of new, store bought dolls at all.

I adore frozen Charlotte's, Boudoir dolls, composition dolls, bisque dolls, half dolls, figurine dolls, art dolls, prims, googley eye dolls and many others. As a little girl, I wouldn't say that I was a big doll fan. I had a few dolls and some Barbies but I out grew them and never thought about dolls again until my 30's. I can't even say when the obsession started but is has continued and I always think I am running out of room but yet I seem to always find room to squeeze in one more (thank goodness!) My husband helped me realize that there is something about the faces that draws me to the things I collect. It didn't take a revelation to figure out he was absolutely right!

My "Caffeine Angel" - I had to have her.....My name is Heidi and I am a caffeine addict. I drink coffee or coffee inclined beverages all day long, every day.

My newest addition: A French Boudoir Doll - all glorious 48" inches of her and her face is divine! Her dress is a little rough around the edges and she looks a little worn but in my eyes, lovely just the same :)

Whew! March has been busy, busy - I am not complaining, just a fact :) That's a good thing as the winter blahs were really beginning to get me down. It's good to see the ground again, even if it isn't green yet. The jumping jacks are already blooming out by the mailbox; a sure sign of spring - they sure are hardy little suckers!

I hunted and gathered many new inspirations at the recent bead show, which was also my best show to date - it gets better every time - yay! Just wrapped up a small trunk show at the bead store is Osseo and I have been working on a few new venues - one for this fall and one for next spring. Stay tuned - exciting news to be posted soon!!

I have recently added some lovely old dolls to my ever growing collection and decided it's about time to start sharing some photo's of these beautiful finds - I have as many as possible crammed into my studio - I find them very comforting and inspiring. I will start sharing some photo's later this week - starting with my latest treasure!

New Year - New Opportunities!

It is shaping up to be an interesting spring, still officially un-employed and still looking for work but I have several irons in the fire and am hoping they will all help expand and grow my little business. I will be doing a small Artisan Show - Saturday Jan. 30th 11 am - 4pm at 42nd Street Station - a New coffee shop in the Camden Area recently opened by an old friend. They have great live music every Friday and Saturday night - highly recommend this coffee shop; great food and coffee, great service, warm atmosphere and free wi-fi!

As always, March brings the Spring "Bead Bazaar" March 13th & 14th in Hopkins at the Community Center, which I will be selling my findings at. The following week, March 18th, 19th & 20th - I have been invited to bring my findings to one of my favorite local bead stores "Beadbury" in Osseo, MN to be a part of their Spring Bead Show where they will be show casing all their treasures and finds from the Tucson and California bead shows - do join us!

Spring blooms with a new opportunity at a new Artisan and Farmers market that will be running mid May through most of October, Saturdays 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at Goose Lake Farms Winery in Nowthen, MN - I didn't even know we had a local winery until they contacted me!

Although my blog has been quiet, I have been busy with holiday festivities, family and trying to keep my consignment venues and my shops in stock. I am always working on new creations but there just never seems to be enough time in one day. I have an overbearing muse that compels me to create "Story Pieces" - so this is what becomes of too many findings that keep sitting around, staring at you and cluttering up the place. Seeds are germinating for additions to this series. My mind wonders way too far some days!

Blue Eyed Susan was a piece that came to "life" over the course of several months. She is darkly bizarre and strangely beautiful - the photo's do not do her justice - she has to be seen with one's own eyes to truly appreciate her. Adorned with faceted Black Onyx and Blue Apatite, she is my current favorite adornment to wear - I may not be able to part with this one!

Here is a bit of the story........................

My late night excursion to the forbidden garden was eerie to say the least. I could not possibly leave with out proof of having been there. It was with out a doubt, creepy; a garden of things, the likes of which you cannot possibly imagine. To actually pick one of these flowers was quite unnerving; they were watching, all of them, always…watching, never blinking, just that incessant, expressionless stare. I just closed my eyes and snipped one! I have included a key to the hidden gate; eerily labeled with what the garden actually contains, should you care to venture in and pick another or an entire bouquet. Take note: the key can only be used once; as the lock morphs after a key has been used, requiring a new key for the next entrance. If you want to return, you must grab a new key at the exit to the gate.

Given that she never blinks or sleeps - she could be your guardian, your protector, third eye, your watcher or maybe she is just a voyeur………..it remains to be seen.

Multi layered richness of seven of my most beautiful filigree and filigree bead caps of both new and vintage brass, have been crowned with a blue, filigree wrapped doll eye and a vintage reproduction key. “Blue Eyed Susan” suspends from vintage brass, peanut link chain sections, connected with hand wrapped, faceted, Black Onyx and an accent of Blue Apatite that matches the eye. I hope you find her as lovely and captivating as I do.

A Space of my Own

It has been a busy summer! Finally, after years of my "stuff" taking over the entire house and overflowing the guest room, I finally have a Studio room of my very own. We can actually have overnight guests again and eat at the dining room table! The Living and Family rooms are no longer cluttered with jewelry and displays strewn all over and my family finally has the house back (they are VERY happy!)

I thought I would share some pics with you. This is where I create!!
Believe it or not, from start to finish, moving everything into this room and getting it organized was the longest 10 days of my life. I was totally fried by the end of it. I worked about 12 hours a day until the wee hours of the morning. I knew it was going to be a job, but each day, it seemed as if it would never end! I never thought that organizing all those beads, findings, papers and craft supplies would be quite the job it was. I figured three days tops - man was I wrong!!

There were some things that needed to remain in the guest room, as all of my available space is used up. I have no place for my sewing machine and all my yarn bins had to stay there too. In fact, if I sew, I will still have to do it at the dining room table. I also don't have adequate space to use my computer there comfortably. I came to the realization that I am a hoarder - I have way too much stuff!! I could make things until the day I croak and never run out of supplies. Not to be alarmed, I am sure that won't stop me from buying more!

At least I was able to bring in some of my favorite things. My Studio is definitely me! My husband really appreciates the fact that I moved Lucy Belle (my antique mannequin) out of our bedroom (she creeped him out) and a large portion of my doll head collection resides in there as well. Enjoy!!

I was fortunate a while back to get an order from an over seas Swim suit company - Aquadiva http://www.aquadivaswimwear.com.au/home - I was recently browsing their website and spotted some of the pieces they had purchased from me on one of their swim suit models - the butterfly bracelet and matching earrings on the model above - Yay!! They go perfect with this lovely swim suit. I also discovered that the suit above is the signature suit for the new 2009 collection and is featured on the July magazine cover.

Beautiful and practical swim wear here if your in the market for a new suit :)

I sometimes wonder how I can find anything!
This is my current work area (my dining room table) - yet I some how seem to know which bag/box holds what. This is only a small portion of the treasures I work with on a daily basis, the rest are in my "studio" - which is too cluttered at the moment to actually work in :(
These are what I call "the essentials" - jump rings and wire in a multitude of sizes, assorted findings, chain, beadcaps, beads and semi-precious stones and lots and lots of tools.

The benefit of this location is that I walk by it all day long, constantly playing, layering and re-arranging until something strikes my fancy. Then I can sit down and dig in - I do keep a journal of ideas but rarely work out of it because my mind is constantly wondering (ADD possibly?) I usually have various bits and pieces laying in groups or partly assembled all over my counter tops (my family is used to it). I like to let things mingle and brew - and sometimes they brew for months - until the right design reveals itself. I am hoping to have my studio cleaned out and organized by the end of summer so my family can have the rest of the house back. My finished product currently consumes the buffet table in my dining room, my entire living room and various areas in my studio. A fine mess indeed - but it's all mine!

I dropped my gallery consignments off late yesterday (Fri.) and got a call today informing me eight pieces had sold - in one day!!! I am over the moon that my items are finding their homes :)

I have been working on new creations all weekend and have been terribly inspired by my new brass shipment. I am working on a new collection that I will be calling - Victorian Curio - I hope to have a few pieces complete and ready to list by the end of next week. This collection will feature beautiful semi - precious stones mixed with the unusual and a little bit of the bizarre - just like a Victorian Curio cabinet.

Wow!! It has been far too long since my last post. Life has been busy and brought many changes since September. I am currently adjusting to life as a displaced worker after recently being laid off my job. It is a strange feeling to say the least. I have been working for nearly 30 years and I am trying to figure out how all those years slipped by? One good look at my kids and in the mirror tells me that sadly, they certainly have.

Next week, I will get rid of five years of accumulation, clean out my office and shut the proverbial door. There will be no call backs.

So, on to the next chapter...........................................................

I am going to throw myself into ramping up my online shops, creating more art and jewelry and of course trying to find a new job. Maybe I will be blessed and find out I can get by on my own ingenuity (if the new government doesn't undermine my efforts). I guess now would be the time to find out. Who knows, with a little luck, and a lot of effort, it could be blessing in disguise??

I have spent the cold winter working with fabulous yarns and fibers and crocheting up a storm. There is something comforting about working with big fluffy fibers and yarns on cold winter day. I think we all have scarves, wristlets and neck warmers for every day of the month. My most recent creation was a gorgeous long wrap shawl made with a mix of mohair, baby alpaca and eyelash yarns. Yummy colors and super soft and snugly. Oh - I made my first full sweater too :) My Mother would be proud. It is actually wearable! A thick chunky wool Chalet sweater, I actually surprised myself. I was sure it would end up mishaped, one arm longer that the other etc....

This is only relevant because I have not crocheted since I was about 9 and my Mom is no longer around to help me out. I think she must have been sitting on my shoulder - lol :)

I hope to begin blogging on a somewhat regular basis again so if anybody stops by, please send a shout out :)

The Golf theme comes from the fact that my Dad made a 9 hole Mini Golf course on the property when they moved in and believe it of not, there is a lake around here somewhere call Mustinka Lake! This is not a working farm - just a FUN (or FUNNY) Farm :)

The Farm - A touch of whimsy in rural Minnesota

I guess you could follow either arrow but this is a much better place to spend the weekend! A wonderful little farm, lucky enough to have been touched by the imagination and creativity of my Fathers Wife (G) and my Father (J). She (G) never ceases to amaze me with her imagination and creativity - a true inspiration to me!!

Out here you get wide open spaces, lot's of peace and quiet, always something interesting to look at, farm auctions, great finds in sleepy small town Antique Shops and "All City" garage sales and best of all, time to visit with my Dad and his Wife in this wonderful little haven in rural Minnesota - Official Population - 59 :-)

Be sure to check in with the lady in the "Office" as you enter the drive. She totes a shot gun so don't go wondering with out checking in! Like the Stephen King book - "The Sentinel" - you will always find her at the window so she can see who's coming and going. Kinda creepy really!

It has been a crazy busy summer and is flying by much too quickly!!

I am off to one of my favorite places to visit and get away from it all this weekend. I am going to take lots of photo's and share it here next week. I promise - you have never seen anything like it!!

If you have any artistic or whimsical bone in your body - you won't want to miss these photo's and the story of the enchanting destination I am heading to for the weekend and you definitely won't believe where it's located (lol!) It's the only place on earth I know of where the intersection sign has directional arrows for Rodeo Drive AND The Hampton's!!!

Next week, I will be posting Photo's that will hopefully inspire, take you back and make you smile. I am not a photographer so I hope I can do this justice - we will see :)

A Rare Glimpse of something special ..........

Can you see it? Do you know what it might be?
This is welcome visitor in my back yard!!
I was re-filling my coffee, gazing out the kitchen window and saw him going across the top of the fence. I thought for sure he would be gone by the time I got out the door with my camera. Once outside, nowhere to be found :(

I sat on the patio and drank my coffee and wondered if I would get another glimpse? Wait - did I see a flick of white in the pine tree? I moved closer, the branches rustled, I looked, lifted branches and stuck my head in a bare spot - there sure enough was my little visitor!!

Do you know what it is yet?
An abosolutely wonderful, Albino squirrel!!
I have heard of them, but never actually seen one. He was as curious about me as I was about him. He just hung there, peering over the branch he was on and watching. I wish I could have got a better shot with my camera. He is quite the site out in the open. Maybe before the summer is over I will be so lucky :)

Who knew! I have never seen a squirrel in pine tree before!!

I hope you enjoy this little bit of nature as much as I did.

OK - it's well into April and weather here is still not very spring like.

We couldn't even get out of the 30's today - burrrr and damp!

I've lost my patience so before I loose my mind, I decided if spring wasn't coming to me, I would look for Spring! Here is my attempt at wooing spring towards Minnesota:

Where does an Ostrich in Minnesota bury it's head??

The pines in my backyard don't even strike me as beautiful coated in snow anymore. Yesterday, you could see the lawn and the faint beginings of green grass. All snatched away!

It's officially spring so they say - you would never know it if you lived in Minnesota!

We got 6+ inches of the fluffy white stuff today :(

Other areas of the state got up to 16 inches so I guess in that respect, we were lucky (always the optimist) I don't know if it is just me getting older or what, but I really am burned out on winter already!

February and March seem like they last forever and I am pretty sure if I see any more snow, I am going to need either a stiff drink or some serious medication - ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!

The hot tub; rendered USELESS since the heater went out last weekend, so no more naked snow angels this year - lol!! There's no place to warm up afterwards!

I do feel like an Ostrich but there's no where to bury my head but in the snow!!

Will spring ever really arrive - I am waiting?????

Finally - here is the Journal I made for my ZNE Artists and Poets journal swap from all angles. I have to admit, I really was pleased with the finished product. The colors, TeXtures and fibers are quite captivating. Not too shabby for something that started out as a stark plain, drab blue, cotten covered sketch and journal book.

I recently took part in a journal swap for my ZNE Artists & Poet's Group http://www.znepoetry.com/ I wanted to finally share with you the Journal I created for Marion Barnett http://artmixter.blogspot.com/ Marion is a fellow Artist, Poet and ZNE member. I have been waiting for my journal to arrive to her in Australia. She finally received it his past weekend.

My intention was to share my Mermaid Swap Art first, but I am in desperate need of reminders of spring. It has been a VERY long winter in Minnesota................

I will share some photo's of the journal over the next few days. There are too many for one posting. There is a lot going on in this journal and I thoroughly enjoyed creating it. When I feel brave enough, I will share more of my writings on my blog.

The first piece of this journal I would like to share is an original Poem by me, written with Marion in my thoughts and creating this journal on my mind.

Life in Yellow

The Glory of yellow starts with the Sun
A life giving color
with out it, there's none
Like a flower in bloom
its yellow displayed
reaches for the sun each and every day

The Robins egg
may be covered in blue
but it's the yellow at the center
breathes life anew
An Angel's halo
would not be more brilliant in white
Yellow rules the Sun,
dawning day, after dark night

When children paint stars'
it is not gray that they choose
but life breathing yellow
in vibrant hues!

The child within
chooses color with glee

More Treasure and a "Sneek Peek"

As promised, below is the second Art Treasure I recieved from Andrea Forgnone in the Mermaid and Seaside swap. My very own little Cathedral Window - Andrea collaged and then reverse painted this acrylic block - it sits in my south window and WOW! The sun just lights this piece up!
I still can't believe these wonderful treasures were for me - all mine!!!! :)

Spring fever?

I was uploading some photo's off my camera and came across some delightful reminders of Spring! It was a balmy 43 degrees here in Minnesota today so these seemed like a fitting tribute. My Husband and my daughter rescued this little duck's children from the storm drain at the bottom of our driveway last spring.
Ever so gently, and one by one, my husband fished out the ducklings with a long handled butterfly net. Mama duck waited very near by and they each ran to her as the were released from the net. My DH even had his waders on, he almost had to go in after the last one who kept jumping into the overflow pipe that was near the bottom of the hole. Mama duck took off with a crew of eleven so my husband carried the last one in the net, to the near by pond - I swear that last little guy walked on water to get back to the flock!

Tomorrow it's back to real winter weather, however days like today and photo's like these above, keep the hope of Spring alive and well - only about 9 more weeks! Enjoy!

Time flies..................there it went!

Well........I sure didn't accomplish what I set out to today. Had morning coffee while checking and responding to email's and perusing my favorite sites and Blogs. Needless to say, after a few refills and feeling satisfied with my adventures, about three hours (yes 3) had passed! Gosh, I love it so but it sure can eat up time.

OK - so I set out today to gather and hunt for my Mermaid swap coming up and find inspirations for my "Goddess of good things to come" Art Doll challenge. All I came home with was a decorative metal mannequin (I needed that like a hole in my head) She is GORGEOUS!!! Going in my studio room! I suppose that is inspiration of sorts?
I realized today when I got her home - I had started a new collection with out even realizing. I guess I love female figure mannequin's (Surprise!) - I have the one I bought today, an Antique paper Mache' one named "Lucy Belle" (she's a voyeur) in my bedroom and freaks my DH out, two table top sized ones I use for jewelry and 4 others of various shapes, sizes and materials. I think I am gonna need a bigger room :o) I'll post a pic of my latest treasure soon.

Thankful tomorrow is another day off work - my pledge is to find that something EXTRA special for the Mermaid swap. Don't know what that is but I will know it when I see it :)

In addition, I finally finished a beautiful Photo Jewelry piece - that has been brining/baking for some time. It all came together last night. I listed it in my other ETSY shop(waternymph.etsy.com) today so hop on over and check it out.
Long story for this one but it was actually remnants of a failed project from a few months back. I couldn't part with the wonderful image under glass - lucky for me because she came into her own as something gorgeous and much better than the first idea. Funny how that works!

I went to my favorite Antique shop today and and made a haul in beautiful antique buttons - celluloid, Bakelite, brass, rhinestone and Austrian crystal topped the list. Good thing DH was out of town because if he saw my bill, I am sure he would have cut me off my daily Lattes for 6 Months and asked if I was feeling ok!! I will be listing some of these in Mermaids Dowry once I decide what I can part with. Hopefully tomorrow I will finish up my other pieces I have been working on this weekend and have a few fresh listings for next week.

Gina Smith!! - a shout out for you with a big THANKS for encouraging me to start a blog. If nothing else, it's a place to have a conversation with out talking to myself (I do that frequently).
